With AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal still in jail, his close aide and second-in-command Manish Sisodia will spearhead the Aam Aadmi Party's campaign in the upcoming assembly elections. While the national capital is due to go to polls this year, Haryana is likely to witness a tough contest later this year. The Aam Aadmi Party has announced that it will contest all 90 assembly seats in Haryana.
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, a confidant of Kejriwal since the days of the anti-corruption movement, will lead the party's election campaign in both Haryana and Delhi. The Supreme Court granted bail to Manish Sisodia after 17 months in prison. On August 9, he walked out of Tihar Jail and was greeted by AAP leaders and family members amid chants of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'.
Sisodia's presence will strengthen the party's election campaign
Aam Aadmi Party leaders believe that Manish Sisodia's presence will strengthen the party's election campaign, especially in Delhi where the party is seeking to come to power for the third consecutive time and is aiming to perform like 2015 and 2020, when the party won 67 and 62 seats respectively.
The period from 2022 to 2024 has been turbulent for AAP
AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said, "There is a lot of enthusiasm among AAP workers after Sisodia got bail. Its effect will be seen in the upcoming elections. We hope that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will also come out of jail soon." The period from 2022 to 2024 has been turbulent for the party, as its senior leaders, including the party supremo, have been arrested in money laundering cases related to the now-defunct Delhi Excise Policy.
Manish Sisodia's release can also give a boost to governance in Delhi
Apart from this, Manish Sisodia's release can also give a boost to governance in Delhi, which has been affected by the arrest of CM Kejriwal. Before resigning on February 28 last year, Sisodia had charge of 18 departments including education, finance, excise, health, and PWD.
