College of Air Warfare (CAW)
The College of Air Warfare (CAW) was established on 1 July 1959 as the School of Land and Air Warfare (SLAW) at New Delhi after receiving the approval of the President of India. Soon after, on 25 July 1959, SLAW was moved to its present location at Secunderabad. The first Commandant of the institute was Air Commodore KL Sondhi. The institute was formally inaugurated on 3 September 1959 by the Defence Minister VK Krishna Menon. Its first regular course commenced on the day of inauguration.

The College of Air Warfare is today known as an important center in the training and strategic development of the Indian Air Force. From its inception till date, this institute has been playing a unique role in the defense sector of India.

Entry in the College of Air Warfare (CAW) is available through CDSE, NCC Special Entry, AFCAT. To get admission here, it is mandatory to pass any one of these three. You can read about it in detail below.
Combined Defense Services Examination (CDSE)
Male candidates can apply for permanent commission through Combined Defense Services Examination (CDSE). Under this exam, one gets the opportunity to be selected in the Indian Armed Forces.
Age Limit: The age of the candidate should be between 20 to 24 years at the time of commencement of the course.
Educational Qualification: The candidate should have completed graduation (three-year course) in any subject from a recognized university. If Physics and Mathematics subjects have been taken at 10 + 2 level, then it will be considered a mandatory qualification.
NCC Special Entry
Candidates wishing to join the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force, who hold a 'C' certificate of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Air Wing Senior Division, can apply through NCC Special Entry. This scheme is for both men and women, in which permanent commission is provided to men and short service commission to men and women.
Age limit: The age of the candidate applying should be between 20 to 24 years as on the date of commencement of the course. Also, the maximum age limit can be increased to 26 years for candidates holding a valid Commercial Pilot License (CPL).
Educational Qualifications: The candidate must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10 + 2 level. Also, the candidate should be a graduate (three-year course) with a minimum of 60% marks in any subject from a recognized university.
Short Service Commission (SSC)
Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Flying Branch can be applied for through the AFCAT exam of the Indian Air Force. This recruitment process is available for both male and female candidates. The duration of Short Service Commission in the Flying Branch is 14 years. This period cannot be extended permanently.
Age Limit: The age of the candidate applying should be between 20 to 24 years as on the date of commencement of the course.
Educational Qualification- Minimum 50% marks in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level. Graduate with minimum 60% marks in any subject from a recognized university.
