New Delhi. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in Bangladesh, there has been a kind of sourness in its relations with India. The statements and actions of the officials of the interim government in Bangladesh have increased the gap between the people of the two countries. Earlier, lakhs of people from Bangladesh used to come to India every year for treatment. But now the hospitals of India have completely reduced their interest in treating these patients. Now other countries are taking advantage of the distance created between Bangladesh and India.
Recently, due to tension between the two countries, many Bangladeshis are being prevented from coming to India. They are also facing difficulty in getting visas. The decision to boycott Bangladeshi patients, doctors, hoteliers, and hospitals in India is related to not getting visas. Since there is no better treatment facility available in Bangladesh, Bangladeshis are looking for alternative countries for treatment. According to reports published in the Bangladeshi media, Bangladeshis are now going to Thailand for treatment instead of India.
According to the Indian Tourism Ministry, about 2.5 million patients from Bangladesh visit India every year. They spend about $500 million on health care. Bangladeshis are increasingly turning to Thailand due to the cost of living and food being close to India. The same report claims that the pressure of passengers on Thailand flights has increased. Apart from this, treatment in Thailand is 20-25 percent cheaper than in India. Also, visas are is easily available there in less time.
A person named Faiz Ahmed, a resident of Mohammadpur in Dhaka, has shared his experience. He said, 'Earlier I had taken treatment in India. However, the cost of treatment is almost the same in both the countries. Whereas Thailand is ahead in terms of service. The airfare from Dhaka to Chennai is 22,000 Taka, for Thailand , it costs 28,000 Taka.
