According to medical practitioners in Dibrugarh, The child was admitted in AAssam Medical College and Hospital 4 days ago and since then has had a stable condition. That said, new delhi has reported the child to exhibit symptoms of HMPV for the first time in the season.

Dr Dhrubajyoti Bhuyan, the superintendent of AMCH, has stated that the child displayed normal symptoms and was admitted in routine checkup along with other patients showing similar symptoms, however upon recieving the results from ICMR, a diagnosis of child presenting with HMPV was confirmed.

According to reports, the superintendant further claimed that, HMPV is prevalent among respiratory viruses, therefore it is not worth worrying about. HMPV is generally self resolving, according to Bhuyan, and only in rare situations will treatment be required.

As revealed by Dr. Biswajit Borkakoty, a senior scientist from ICMR-RMRC, this is the first incident of HMPV being registered for this season in the Dibrugarh district. The region has witnessed a total of 110 HMPV cases since the year 2014 and the virus is more commonly found in winters and early spring season. To this, Dr. Borkakoty has stated: “This is nothing new. HMPV cases are detected every year.” Furthermore, Dr. Borkakoty underlines, “Since 2014, 110 cases have been enumerated and many of them appear in winters as HMPV viruses.”

Despite the fact that HMPV does not require immediate care and has the potential to affect all age groups, it has been evaluated to only cause moderate respiratory infection.
