Winter has started knocking on the doors of the entire country. Meanwhile, amid sporadic rains and lightning in many states of the country, IMD has given a big update on the weather. The latest forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department says that the calamity of heavy rains is going to come once again.
The Indian Ocean becomes much denser during the northeast monsoon season. Due to this, storm activity gradually reaches its peak in November. However, this time it is somewhat dormant. The only post-monsoon storm this season was 'Dana'.
Dana storm hit as a severe cyclone in October 2024. Dana soon assumed the form of a severe Cat-1 cyclone and caused great devastation in the areas adjoining the Bay of Bengal. Dana storm hit the Odisha coast near Dhamra port on the intervening night of 24-25 October.
The storm may intensify between 21 and 23 November.
However, there are indications of a new cyclone in the Bay of Bengal once again. This is what the IMD says. However, according to the Meteorological Department report, this cyclone will have a completely different track and impact on the Indian coastline.
According to the weather department forecast, a cyclone is likely to form over the Andaman Sea south of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on November 21, 2024. This cyclone may intensify further between November 22 and 23. If so, a low-pressure area may form in the region by November 23. The IMD estimates that a depression is likely to form by November 23.
This time Sri Lanka will face devastation!
According to the IMD report, the low pressure will gradually strengthen and move towards the west and northwest, after which it will become stronger and then take the form of a cyclonic storm. The IMD has indicated that this system will eventually hit northern Sri Lanka on November 26 and 27.
However, the Meteorological Department has also informed us that at this stage of the weather, it is not possible to make a final prediction about this cyclone and to estimate its track and intensity. This new system and its movement in the coming days depend on what is going to happen in the coming days. Whether the storm will come or not can be understood by looking at the movement of this weather system.
What will be the name of this storm?
However, if this system becomes a storm, it will be the second cyclone of this season. As suggested by member country Saudi Arabia, the next storm will be named 'Fengal' and it will be pronounced 'Feenjal'.
Incidentally, these storms that form over the Bay of Bengal in November usually move towards northern Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal. Bangladesh also falls in the range of this storm.
