Karachi. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is continuously adamant on organizing the Champions Trophy in Pakistan but its arrangements have been exposed. On Monday, the National Women's Championship was cut short. Five players had a narrow escape in a fire incident in the team hotel. PCB had booked an entire floor of the hotel for the five teams and team officials but it had to be cut short due to the fire.
A source said that when the fire broke out, except for five players, all other cricketers and officials were in the National Stadium either for the match or for a net session. The source said, “When the fire broke out, five players were in their rooms. This has caused damage to some property of the players and officials.”
The PCB said in a statement, "The PCB has decided to end the National Women's ODI Tournament 2024-25 in Karachi after a fire incident at the team hotel. The good thing is that no player was injured as the PCB immediately evacuated the five players who were present in the hotel at the time of the incident. They were safely taken to the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Center.
Pakistan Denies Hybrid Model
The ICC Champions Trophy is to be held in Pakistan next year. India has refused to go to Pakistan and play. The ICC has asked the PCB to organize the tournament in a hybrid model. Pakistan has clearly refused to organize the Champions Trophy in this model. The ICC does not want to organize the tournament without India and Pakistan is not agreeing. If the PCB does not agree with the ICC's words, the tournament can be shifted outside.
