Patna. The land of Bihar is considered to be very fertile politically. The people here are also considered to be politically aware. This is the reason why the leaders of Bihar are also very alert and cautious. Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav has already come down to the ground to gauge the mood of the public. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has started trying to come to power in Bihar with a borrowed idea. He had reached Samastipur during the Karyakarta Samvad Yatra, where he promised the public to give free electricity up to 200 units. However, he did not tell how the Bihar Electricity Department, already burdened with subsidy, will give free electricity up to 200 units.
Actually, before the assembly elections, the Kejriwal government of Delhi had promised to give 200 units of electricity free to the public. After the formation of the government, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also fulfilled his promise. His power in Delhi is still strong. After this, such announcements were made in many states. RJD leader Tejashwi has also now believed this promise. Tejashwi Yadav is on a worker dialogue tour these days. In this sequence, he reached Samastipur on Wednesday. During the conversation with the local leaders and workers of RJD, he made a big promise to the public. He said that if his government is formed in the assembly elections to be held in the year 2025, then he will give up to 200 units of electricity free to the people.
'Electricity is most expensive in Bihar'
During the Karyakarta Samvad Yatra, Tejashwi Yadav claimed that electricity in Bihar is the most expensive in the country. Common people are troubled by electricity bills. He also targeted the government regarding smart meters and said that all these irregularities would be corrected if the government was formed under his leadership. Let us tell you that Tejashwi Yadav has started the Karyakarta Samvad Yatra on September 10. Under the first phase, his journey will continue till September 17. During this, Tejashwi Yadav will measure 40 assembly constituencies of Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, and Muzaffarpur districts.
How will the promise be implemented?
Tejashwi Yadav has promised to provide free electricity for up to 200 units, but how will he fulfill it? Where will the funds of thousands of crores of rupees come from for this? In the financial year 2022-23, the Bihar government gave a total subsidy of Rs 8,895 crore on electricity. In the financial year 2023-24, it was increased to Rs 13,114 crore. Interestingly, in Bihar, rural consumers have to pay only 28 percent of the electricity, while the state government pays 72 percent. At the same time, urban domestic consumers who consume up to 200 units of electricity have to pay 56.3 percent. The state government pays the remaining 43.7 percent as a subsidy. In this way, the Bihar government is already assisting thousands of crores of rupees regarding electricity bills. Due to this, the additional burden on the treasury is continuously increasing. If Tejashwi Yadav fulfills his promise, then it will increase by several thousand crores of rupees. Bihar's financial health of Bihar, which is already crying about an empty treasury, may deteriorate further.
