In fact, on Thursday (October 3), the central government has approved the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oilseeds with an outlay of Rs 10,103 crore to make India self-sufficient in terms of edible oils. This decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. Let us tell you that India imports more than 50 percent of its annual requirement of edible oils.

The government said on the social media platform 'X', "To make India self-sufficient in oilseed production in the next 7 years, the Cabinet has approved the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Seeds (NMEO-Oilseeds) with an outlay of Rs 10,103 crore for the year 2024-25 to the year 2030-31.
The government said the mission aims to increase primary oilseed production from 39 million tonnes in 2022-23 to 69.7 million tonnes by 2030-31. It said, "It aims to increase oilseed cultivation by an additional 40 lakh hectares."
India imports palm oil from Indonesia and
Malaysia and soybean oil from Brazil and Argentina. Sunflower here is imported mainly from Russia and Ukraine.
PM National Agriculture Development Scheme and Agriculture Unnati Yojana also a.pproved
Apart from this, a cabinet meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Modi. The government has approved the PM-National Agriculture Development Scheme (PM-RKVY) and Agriculture Unnati Yojana. The government will spend Rs 1.01 lakh crore on these 2 schemes.
