Prayagraj: A fire broke out at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on Saturday, engulfing several tents in the area. While no casualties have been reported, eyewitnesses claim that blankets and quilts worth lakhs of rupees have been destroyed in the blaze.

With crores of devotees arriving in Prayagraj to take a holy dip at the Sangam, the authorities had already designated areas near Sangam as no-vehicle zones. All vehicles from outside the city have been stopped at Prayagraj’s borders to manage the heavy influx of pilgrims.

Fire Under Control, Confirms Police

Providing an update on the incident, DIG Maha Kumbh Vaibhav Krishna stated that the fire was completely brought under control.

“Some old tents vacated by Kalpvasis in Sector 19 caught fire. No one has been killed or injured,” he confirmed.

Fourth Fire Incident at Maha Kumbh Since January

This marks the fourth fire incident at the Maha Kumbh since it began on January 13.

Previous Fire Incidents:
January 19 – Multiple tents burned in Sector 19.
January 30 – A fire in Sector 22 destroyed over a dozen tents.
February 7 – Another fire erupted in Sector 18.

Saints Gradually Departing from Maha Kumbh

With Kalpvas (a month-long spiritual retreat) concluding, most of the saints have started leaving the Maha Kumbh. As a result, many tents are now vacant.

However, with devotees still arriving in large numbers, authorities remain on high alert. Several fire engines have been deployed across the Maha Kumbh area to prevent and control any further fire incidents.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring the safety of pilgrims attending the world's largest spiritual gathering.
