New Delhi. It is said that 'a straw will come to save a drowning person, who will save a straw that wants to drown itself.' Such is the situation of Bangladesh these days. In 1971, when Bangladesh was drowning, India put its money, weapons and soldiers at stake to protect it and get it independence. Then Bangladesh was drowning and India saved it. But today, if Bangladesh wants to drown, then who can save it? Ever since the Sheikh Hasina government was overthrown in August and anti-India forces took over, Bangladesh's bad days have started. Experts from all over the world say that if India wants, Bangladesh will be destroyed without any weapon, but still if this neighboring country wants to drown itself, then what can anyone do.
You can guess the dependence of Bangladesh on India from the fact that 94% of its border is with India. The two countries share a 4,367 km long border, which is 94% of Bangladesh's total international border. It is obvious that its trade will not be able to run without India's cooperation. Under the influence of Pakistan, it has started opposing India and China and Pakistan are also tempting it to do business, but sending goods there through the only route to reach Bangladesh, the Bay of Bengal, will not only be difficult but also very expensive.
For which things is Bangladesh dependent on us?
By sharing 94 percent of the border, Bangladesh is completely dependent on us from the strategic and security point of view, apart from this, India is its only partner for cotton, garlic, onion, wheat, rice, sugar, grains, petrol-diesel, electric equipment, plastic and steel. If India turns away from the export of these things, then its ruin is certain. As far as the market for India is concerned, it will be compensated by other ways. India and Bangladesh are the largest trading partners in South Asia. In 2022-23, the total trade of the two countries was around $ 16 billion, in which exports from Bangladesh were only $ 2 billion and from India $ 14 billion. It is clear that the extent of Bangladesh's dependence on Indian goods is not hidden from anyone.
A single attack
from India is enough to put Bangladesh in trouble. There is one thing about Bangladesh which the whole world salutes and that is the textile industry. This industry alone has an 11% share in Bangladesh's GDP. Cotton is needed to run the textile industry and this raw material comes from India. India sends 35% of its total cotton production to Bangladesh alone. Statistics clearly show that if this export stops, Bangladesh's textile industry will collapse and unemployment and inflation will reach its peak.
2 lakh crores lost in 4 months
. The figures themselves tell us how much loss Bangladesh has suffered since August. During Sheikh Hasina's tenure, from 2009 to July 2024, Bangladesh's GDP growth rate was 6.3 percent, which has now been estimated by rating agencies like Moody's and ADB to be below 5 percent. While its GDP had reached $ 455 billion and per capita income $ 2,784, Bangladesh's economy has suffered a loss of about Rs 2 lakh crore in just 4 months from August till now.
India has controlled inflation
Harsh Pant, Professor of International Affairs at King's College London, says that India has controlled the inflation in Bangladesh. No country in the world can pay the price at which goods reach Bangladesh from India. Be it China or Pakistan, goods will be delivered to Bangladesh through the Bay of Bengal, which is very expensive and risky. Despite this, Bangladesh has recently ordered about 25 thousand tons of sugar from Pakistan. Now the question arises that how much help can Pakistan, which is itself in a bad condition, provide to Bangladesh at a low price.
What is the intention of China-Pak and what is the loss? There
is a saying that burning others' house to warm one's hands is also a skill of enmity and Pakistan is applying this saying on Bangladesh these days. China and Pakistan together want to pit Bangladesh against India, so that they can surround us from both the east and west. In Bangladesh, voices have started rising that it should get nuclear technology from Pakistan. Even if Bangladesh gets nuclear technology, it will suffer losses, because if this happens, it may have to face severe sanctions from western countries. Not only this, the figures given above also clearly say that by being hostile towards India, Bangladesh's existence will disintegrate without any weapon, because hunger, unemployment and inflation cause more harm than any war.
