To find the answer to this question, we talked to Dr. Vigyan Mishra Chief of lab from Neuberg Diagnostics, Noida. He told us about it in detail.

What is diabetes ?

Diabetes occurs when your pancreas reduces the production of insulin hormones. Apart from this, when your body is not able to use the insulin hormone properly, the sugar level in your body starts increasing. This increased sugar level causes diabetes. In other words, an increased sugar level in the body is called diabetes.

diabetes patients in India

The number of sugar patients is increasing rapidly all over the world. Apart from this, a rapid increase has been recorded in the number of diabetes patients in India. According to an estimate, the number of type-2 diabetes patients in India is around 8 crores. What is even more worrying is that about 50% of the people are unaware of their actual condition. Such a large number of people being unaware of the disease creates a serious situation.

Those with pre-diabetes are at greater risk

Dr. Vigyan Mishra explains that pre-diabetic people, i.e. those whose blood sugar level is slightly high, if they consume sweets in large quantities, then they are more likely to get diabetes. This happens because eating sweets increases your sugar level even more. In such a situation, doctors say that people with pre-diabetes should avoid sweets. Because even in this situation, if the person does not take care of his diet, then his risk of diabetes increases to a great extent.

Relation between diabetes and sweets – Relation between Sugar and Diabetes

Dr. Vigyan Mishra explains that diabetes is often associated with sweets. But here you need to know that there is no direct relationship between diabetes and eating sweets. Consuming sweets alone cannot make you a victim of diabetes. There can be many other reasons for diabetes and especially type-2 diabetes, including genetics, lifestyle, and overall diet, which cause diabetes.

Why is sugar considered the cause of diabetes?

Health experts answer this question by saying that sugar does not directly cause diabetes. But eating too much sugar can increase our weight. Which causes the onset of type-2 diabetes. Obesity increases insulin resistance in our body. Because due to obesity the cells of our pancreas are not able to do their work properly. Due to this, the production of insulin in our body is affected. Which works to control our blood sugar levels. Low production of insulin hormone gradually leads us to diabetes.

Apart from sugar, these foods also cause diabetes

According to health experts, sugar is not the only thing responsible for increasing the risk of diabetes. Apart from this, we eat many such things every day, which gradually leads us towards diabetes by increasing our sugar level. High-fat foods and low-fiber foods are also responsible for this. Therefore, if you consider only sugar or foods made from it as the sole cause of diabetes, then let us make it clear to you that both your diet and lifestyle together cause diabetes.
