It has become difficult to breathe in Delhi-NCR. Due to pollution, problems like suffocation, burning sensation in the eyes, and itching are troubling people. In such a situation, many people are also buying air purifiers to protect themselves from this poisonous air, so that lives can be saved inside the houses and pure air can be taken. Are you also planning to buy an air purifier or are you wondering how much benefit will be there by installing it? So let's know the opinion of WHO experts regarding air purifiers…

Dr. Gopichand Khilnani, a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Technical Advisory Group on Global Air Pollution and Global Health and a well-known pulmonary expert from Delhi, says that in India, large air purifiers are already being installed in offices and companies to avoid pollution, but now the trend of installing them in homes has also increased. Just like air conditioners in summer, air purifiers have also become a necessity as soon as September-October arrives.

How effective is the air purifier?
There is no scientific evidence as to how much impact installing an air purifier has on the purity of air or whether it actually purifies the Air Quality Index completely, but there are claims about its technology and the monitor fitted on it also indicates that after running it for some time, the AQI of that room has come down from 200 to 50 or below, so it definitely purifies the air of that room and it also gives peace to the mind.

Secondly, it works exactly like an air conditioner. The bigger the room, the higher the capacity of the air purifier you will need. For example, for a bigger room, you need an AC with a higher tonnage capacity. So the purification of air also depends on this.

How many hours should you run the air purifier?
Dr. GC Khilnani says that often people run the air purifier for one or two hours and think that now the air is pure and then turn it off. Or they run it when they enter the room and turn it off as soon as they leave, just like they turn off the AC or fan. Whereas this should not be done. It is important to keep the air purifier on for 24 hours. Do not turn it on only when you enter the room. Keep it on only, only then you will get better results.

How long is it necessary to stay in an air purifier?
If there is an air purifier installed in the house, then you have to stay in it day and night. During this time, keep the doors and windows of the house completely closed. If even a little pollution comes from outside, then you will not get the benefit of this purifier. On the other hand, if you have to go out for some work, then go wearing an N-95 mask. However, even a mask does not provide 100 percent protection from pollution. It is not safe to stay in pollution even for a minute.

Keep these 3 things in mind

Dr. Khilnani says that for people who are elderly, suffer from asthma or heart disease, or are struggling with any other problem, air purifiers are beneficial to some extent. However, this is only possible if they stay in it for as long as possible.

. If you are running an air purifier, every window and every door should be closed. It should not happen that sometimes you open the windows and sometimes you close them. This will keep the polluted air flowing in your house and the purifier will be of no use.

. For those who say that they feel suffocated and cannot sleep without opening the window, air purifiers are of no use to them. They should not install it.
