Sometime or the other, somewhere or the other, you must have seen someone talking to himself. If your answer is yes, then it is very possible that after seeing such a person, not one or two but many questions will arise in your mind that why is this person talking to himself? Is he suffering from some disease or is he mad? Conversation is possible only between two people, but if a person talks to himself alone, then it is natural for the people around him to be surprised.
These people have this problem-
Psychologists explain the reason behind this and say that when a person is unable to express his feelings openly, he develops the habit of talking to himself. Talking to oneself is not a disease, but if one gets too used to it, then it can undoubtedly become a cause of concern from the point of view of your health. In such a situation, you should definitely consult a psychologist. In this regard, Dr. (Prof.) Rajeev Mehta, psychiatrist of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Institute of Behavioral Sciences, had a detailed discussion.
Dr. (Prof.) Rajeev Mehta explains, “Talking to oneself is a symptom found in many places. Sometimes it is seen in a normal person as well. When he is planning something, or thinking about something, or is very tired. In such a situation, people are seen talking to themselves. Sometimes when a person becomes very stressed or is worried or delusional about something, then you can see him talking to himself and or when a person is suffering from psychosis or schizophrenia. In such a situation also a person talks to himself.
There may be a fear of psychosis or schizophrenia-
Dr. (Prof.) Rajeev Mehta explains, "When a person suffering from psychosis or schizophrenia talks to himself, it seems as if he is talking to something invisible. For example, the person may be talking while looking upwards, making hand gestures, laughing at himself, or crying. In this situation, the person is talking differently from the state of depression and anxiety."
He further said, “Usually, only those people talk to themselves who are delusional and stressed. Apart from this, such symptoms are also found in people who plan too much and compete to be perfect in everything. Usually, such symptoms are seen only in those who have schizophrenia. If a person has schizophrenia, then it cannot be ignored, but other types of people have the habit of talking to themselves. If this condition starts affecting their relationships, their professional life on a large scale, then they should definitely consult a doctor.”
