The corporation's preparations did not work.
The Greater Chennai Municipal Corporation had claimed to have made extensive preparations to deal with Cyclone Fanjal, but when the cyclone hit the coastal areas, all the preparations were in vain. The Municipal Corporation has said that 22 thousand employees will be deployed to deal with the effects of the storm. These include engineers, sanitation workers, and other officials. Apart from this, 1686 motor pumps have also been deployed in various areas to deal with the problem of waterlogging, so that the water can be drained out in time. Municipal officials said that the work of draining out water from 134 places is going on at a war footing. Also, out of the 9 places where trees had fallen, 5 have been cleared.
