Chennai: Five people were killed and over 250 hospitalized in a stampede during an air show at the city's Marina Beach on Sunday. Doctors said at least one of the four who died had suffered a heat stroke. Spectators started gathering at the Marina Beach from 11 am onwards, many carrying umbrellas to protect themselves from the scorching sun, to watch the thrilling display of fighter jets during the 92nd Indian Air Force Day celebrations.

These people reached here in thousands despite the humidity and thoroughly enjoyed the combat skills of various fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force including Rafale. The demonstration began with the display of the daring skills of the commandos of the special Garud force of the Indian Air Force, in which they showed a mock operation of freeing the hostage.

About 50 fighter planes, including the supersonic fighter plane Rafale, together spread a glow of various colors in the sky. Dakota and Harvard, Tejas, SU-30, and Sarang also took part in the air salute. Sukhoi SU-30 also showed its stunts. The pride of the country and indigenously built ultramodern Tejas and helicopter Prachand also participated in the air display held in Chennai after a gap of 21 years.
