Bushra Bibi who to date remained a mystery woman for the entire world along with Pakistan. Today the same Bushra Bibi is openly challenging the Pakistani government. Bushra has marched to Islamabad with thousands of her supporters and the Shahbaz Sharif government, frightened by this, has put Islamabad under lockdown.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) anti-government 'Final Call' rally has reached the outskirts of Islamabad. The rally started from Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday. Heavy security has been put in place to prevent its entry into the country's capital. Bushra Bibi, wife of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, is leading the protest. She has vowed to continue it until her husband is released from jail.
Thousands of PTI supporters marching with Bushra Bibi
Along with Bushra Bibi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is also leading the rally, which is attended by thousands of PTI supporters. On Sunday, security forces attacked the protesters camped a few kilometers away from Islamabad with rubber bullets. Several shipping containers have also been placed on the roads leading to Islamabad to prevent them from entering the capital.
Addressing PTI supporters, Bushra Bibi appealed to everyone to come forward and ensure the release of Imran Khan.
Bushra Bibi said, 'We will keep moving forward and will not go back without Imran Khan. We will not stop protesting until Imran Khan is released. Even if no one stands with me, I will not go back without Imran Khan. I appeal to the Pathans of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to show their strength. I am sure they will not compromise their honor and dignity.'
Islamabad's D-Chowk is the target.
PTI supporters have targeted Islamabad's D-Chowk. They plan to protest at this important place. Apart from demanding the release of Imran Khan, they want the return of the alleged mandate of the February general elections, which the PTI claims was stolen and the 26th Amendment should be reversed.
On the other hand, the government says that it will not allow PTI supporters to spread violence and chaos in the country's capital. Punjab province spokesperson Azma Bukhari also criticized PTI for violent attacks on police officers and their vehicles. Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Bukhari said, 'A police mobile van was set on fire at Khanna Bridge near Islamabad. Police officers were attacked and injured. We have been saying for a long time that PTI and peace cannot be combined. PTI wants to ensure that there is bloodshed, which is why Bushra Bibi and Gandapur are forcing people to clash with security forces.'
Bukhari said, "PTI has failed miserably in Punjab, Sind,h and Balochistan as no one has come out in their support. Gandapur in KP is not at all bothered about the bloodshed in Kurram or Bajaur and is using all the resources of his provincial government to make the protest successful."
Why is the Shahbaz government in tension?
Sources say that the PTI leadership is being told to stop the protests and not enter the capital, especially during the visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Pakistan, who arrived in Islamabad on Monday. The PTI has also been told that it has no legal permission to hold protests in the capital, as the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has said that neither the protesters will be allowed to enter the capital nor will any leniency be shown to them.
It seems that PTI workers are in no mood to relent and they are ready to clash with security officials until their leader Imran Khan is released from jail. (With agency input)
