A doctor has been arrested for allegedly raping two women patients at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, police said on Tuesday. The alleged incident took place on Sunday when the women had come to the Cardiology department of the premier government hospital for an echocardiogram test, police said.

Cuttack Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash R said the resident doctor was arrested on charges of rape based on a complaint by two female patients. Cuttack Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Anil Mishra said, "A written complaint was filed by both the patients at the Mangalbagh police station on Monday, following which a case was registered against the doctor."

A three-member inquiry committee has been constituted to probe the allegations

The Health and Family Welfare Department has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the allegations against the resident doctor. The notification issued by the department said that the panel would conduct a detailed investigation and recommend appropriate action to the government.

The accused was allegedly beaten up by some relatives of the patient

Another police official said the accused doctor had allegedly asked the two women to come for tests on Sunday instead of Friday. Some relatives of the patient allegedly beat up the accused, though Mishra said the police have not received any formal complaint in this regard.
