The story of Bach Baras (Bach Baras Ki Kahani)
Once upon a time, there lived a moneylender in a village. He had seven sons and many grandsons. One day, there was a severe famine in the village. Then the moneylender built a pond in the village. But there was no water in that pond for many years. Then the moneylender asked the Pandits for a solution. The Pandits said that you will have to sacrifice your eldest son or eldest grandson, only then water can come here. Thinking about the welfare of the village, the moneylender decided to sacrifice.
The moneylender sent his daughter-in-law to her parental home with one of his grandsons, Hansraj, and kept the elder grandson with him. It is said that his name was Bachchraj. Bachchraj was sacrificed in this way. After which water also came into the pond. After this, the moneylender organized a big yagya on the pond itself. However due to the hesitation of sacrificing his grandson, he could not send an invitation to his daughter-in-law. The daughter-in-law's brother said, there is such a big celebration at your place, but why did your father-in-law not invite you? I have been invited, I am going.
The daughter-in-law said that he must have forgotten it in his work and why should I be ashamed to go to my own house? I will also come. When the daughter-in-law reached home, the mother-in-law and father-in-law were worried about what would they say if the daughter-in-law found out. Still, the mother-in-law gathered courage and said, daughter-in-law, let's go to the pond to perform the Bachh Baras Puja. Both of them went and started praying. The mother-in-law said, daughter-in-law, break the edge of the pond with a kasumbaal.
The daughter-in-law said I have two sons Hansraj and Bachchraj then why should I break it? The mother-in-law said do as I say. The daughter-in-law obeyed her mother-in-law and broke the edge and said “Come my Hansraj, Bachchraj pick up the laddus.” Her mother-in-law started praying to God in her mind that O Bachh Baras Mata please save my honour. After some time both Bachchraj and Hansraj covered in the mud of the pond came running. The daughter-in-law asked, “Mother-in-law what is all this?” Then the mother-in-law told the daughter-in-law everything and said God has kept me safe. Today by the grace of God everything has become fine. O Bachh Baras Mata! The way you kept your mother-in-law safe, keep everyone safe in the same way.
