Ahmedabad. Suddenly a crowd of people started gathering near the dustbin at the railway station. When the Railway Station Police (RPF) team reached there as soon as possible, it was found that a child was lying on the dustbin. The child was quickly admitted to the hospital. Now the RPF started investigating how this child came to the dustbin of the railway station. For this, the RPF team searched all the CCTV footage of the railway station and then the truth that came out was shocking.
It is being told that a 35-year-old mother had abandoned her newborn baby girl at Dhandhuka railway station on 28 October. When the RPF scanned the CCTV footage, it was seen that a woman was seen leaving the baby girl wrapped in a torn dupatta at the station. Dhandhuka Railway Police identified the woman and started making inquiries around and then the information about that woman was found. The RPF team then interrogated the woman.
The family hails from Madhya Pradesh.
The woman told the officers that she and her husband, who works as a daily wage labourer, already had three daughters and wanted a son. After giving birth to another girl child, the mother took the difficult decision to leave the infant at the station. Dhandhuka police inspector Ramesh Gojia said the couple, originally from Madhya Pradesh, were working as migrant labourers in different parts of Gujarat.
The husband often scolded his wife.
He said that they had come to Dhandhuka about two months ago and were staying near the railway station when the woman experienced labour pains on the night of October 27. According to the railway police officer involved in the investigation, both the husband and wife were upset to know that their fourth child was also a daughter. According to the officer, the husband often scolded and taunted his wife, due to which she would go to the railway station with her three other younger daughters and leave the newborn in the dustbin there. She was confident that someone would find the child and take care of him.
The shopkeeper saw everything with his own eyes.
A railway stall owner spotted the infant while throwing garbage and immediately informed the police. Medical staff at a government hospital in Dhandhuka examined the girl and found her to be healthy. Officials used CCTV footage to trace the mother, who was counselled before returning the newborn. The matter was handed over to the railway police and eventually no formal complaint was lodged.
