Indian Army: Air defense is one of the biggest weapons of any country's strength. It protects against enemy missile, drone, aircraft attacks. The kind of havoc created by drones in the current war is not hidden from anyone. Cheap is cheap and inflicts serious wounds. The Indian Army has also taken a big decision learning from the current war. The Indian Army is going to purchase special anti-drone ammunition for the air defense gun it has. The army issued the first tender for the year 2025. The special thing is that all these purchases are to be made from indigenous companies.
Anti-drone ammunition will be so deadly
that the Indian Army has many types of air defense guns. Almost all the guns have also been upgraded according to today's times. Air defense gun Zu-23 and its tracked version Shilka will now fire special anti-drone bullets. Information about this has been sought from indigenous companies in the RFI issued by the Army. The specialty of the 23mm round should be that it should have a proximity or air burst fuse. That is, if fired at a drone, it should explode close to it and the drone should be destroyed. The fuse should be pre-programmed to shoot down any loitering ammunition in the range of 1000 meters to 2500 meters. The cartridge of this ammunition should fit in the Zu-23 and Shilka air defense system. No changes will be made in the gun. It should have the ability to hit accurately in an area above 14000 feet. It will be most important that it can be used easily in temperatures ranging from 25 degrees to 45 degrees. The shelf life of this ammunition should not be less than 10 years. The Indian Army is planning to purchase 2 lakh rounds of anti-drone ammunition every year.
Anti-drone ammunition will be fired from Z-23
ZU-23 is a Russian gun. It was acquired from Russia in the early 80s. It is a double barrel gun. It can fire 800 rounds from one barrel and a total of 1600 rounds from both barrels per minute. This gun is used manually. It destroys any potential target coming within 2 to 2.5 kilometers. Indian Army has 7 to 8 regiments of this. Every regiment has 24 guns. Since it is a light gun, it can also be carried by towing it. 5-6 soldiers can assemble its parts at any place by separating them. They are deployed in Siachen and high altitude areas.
Shilka air defense gun will create a riot
Shilka is another form of ZU-23mm. It is installed on a tracked vehicle. Each vehicle has 2 ZU-23mm guns. That is, one system has 4 barrels, which means this system can fire 3200 rounds in a minute. This is a tracked gun system and can be easily used in any type of terrain. Usually, whenever there is a movement of tanks, it moves with every regiment. It protects its tanks from enemy aerial attacks. The Indian Army has around 8 regiments of Shilka. The gun is being upgraded due to the ever-increasing aerial threat.
