Colorful nails attract everyone and are also an important part of makeup. Girls experiment a lot with nails to make their hands and feet beautiful. Some paint their nails with colorful nail polish, some get nail art done and some get nail piercing done. But all these things are spoiling the health of the nails.

Nails protect the skin.
Nails act as a barrier for the skin. It keeps many infections away but if the health of nails is not taken care of, then these nails can also become diseased. Dr. Kashish Kalra, dermatologist at Max Smart Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, Delhi , says that there are many diseases related to nails that can increase by applying nail polish. Nail polish is made of chemicals that are not good for nail health. It is better not to apply nail polish and if you apply it, then remove it just like you remove makeup daily.

Nails get damaged due to 2 reasons According to
Dr. Kashish Kalra, the health of nails deteriorates due to 2 reasons. First is vitamin deficiency and second is trauma. Iron, zinc, vitamin B3, 12, and magnesium are very important for nails. If these nutrients are deficient in the body, then the nails become thin, and yellow and start breaking. On the other hand, if the nail gets hurt or tight shoes are worn, then the nails go into trauma and start falling off when they become weak.

Nail damage due to nail polish and nail art.
Nails may look beautiful after nail art, but it spoils nail health. The UV range used in nail art damages the nails and makes them dry. On the other hand, applying nail polish brings the nails in contact with chemicals, which increases the risk of contact dermatitis. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, when the nails come in contact with ultraviolet light while doing nail art or gel manicures, it increases the risk of skin cancer and premature skin aging. Nail art or gel manicures should be avoided and if necessary, manicures should be done only after 1-2 weeks.

Nail psoriasis can occur.
Dr. Kashish Kalra says that psoriasis is an autoimmune disease. But if someone already has this disease, then there are 40 to 50 percent chances of getting nail psoriasis in such people. On the other hand, people who have psoriatic arthritis have a 90% chance of getting nail psoriasis. Nail polish does not cause nail psoriasis but it can trigger it. In this, straight lines start forming on the nails. Pits form on the nails, the color starts turning yellow and sometimes the part under the nails gets lifted due to which white powder-like fungus starts accumulating.

The fungus is not good.
Fungus is present in the entire environment but if it enters the nails, it can harm the entire body. The fungus occurs only when the barrier of the nails breaks. This can break due to patches or due to weakening. If fungus starts growing in the nails, the nails become colorless, their thickness increases, they start cracking and they start looking like powder. Even if it is treated, it can occur again anytime. This problem is more common in people who swim or do sports activities. People whose feet sweat and who wear shoes for a long time can also get nail fungus. People who are diabetic should also take care of their nails to avoid this.

Nails reveal health
Nails reveal the secrets of health. Dr. Kalra says that by looking at them one can know what is lacking in the body. If there are white patches on the nails then it shows deficiency of zinc and copper. If there are cracks then it shows symptoms of protein deficiency or thyroid. If the nail sinks from the middle like a spoon then it means iron deficiency. If the color of the nails starts changing then it could be a fungal infection or psoriasis. If long lines start appearing on the nails then it is a sign of ageing. Whereas if blue marks start appearing on it then understand that there is a lack of oxygen in the blood, which means it shows a problem related to the heart or lungs.

These women should not apply nail polish.
Women whose cuticles are torn, cut, and weak, whose nails are thin or break easily, such women should avoid nail polish and nail art. These symptoms are not good for the health of nails. Those whose nails are injured should also avoid these things.

Take care of your nails like this.
The health of nails depends a lot on diet so take a diet rich in iron, zinc, and vitamin B. Just like the skin, nails also need to be moisturized so apply coconut oil or any moisturizer twice a day. Girls should avoid wearing tight bellies or narrow front open footwear. Wear gloves while washing clothes or utensils. Always keep your nails short, if you have a habit of biting nails then correct it. While getting pedicures and manicures done, get the instruments properly sanitized in the salon because these are most likely to cause fungal infections.
