Mumbai. A major accident took place near the Mumbai coast in Maharashtra on Wednesday. A ferry (boat) capsized after colliding with a speed boat near Elephanta Island in the Arabian Sea. 13 people died in this accident. The deceased include 10 civilians and 3 naval personnel.
At the time of the accident, there were 115 passengers and five crew members on board the boat named Neelkamal. He said that the boat was going to Elephanta Island, a popular tourist destination near Mumbai, when a speed boat collided with it at around 4 pm.
A video of this incident has also surfaced, in which this speed boat is moving very fast. People on the boat are making a video of it. Then the speed boat comes straight and collides with the same ferry.
Whose was that speed boat?
After this incident, questions are being raised as to whose speed boat was this, due to which such a big accident happened. Regarding this incident, CM Devendra Fadnavis told in the assembly that 'the speed boat lost control and collided with the ferry. It is being told that that speed boat belongs to the Navy or Coast Guard.' Along with this, Fadnavis has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh from the CM Relief Fund for the deceased.
What did the Navy say about the accident?
However, now a statement has come from the Navy, in which it was told that this speed was theirs. In the statement issued by the Navy, it was said that during the engine trial of a Navy craft, it lost control and collided with the passenger ferry Neel Kamal. The passenger ferry was taking passengers from Gateway to Elephanta Island. The Navy immediately started rescue work with the help of Coast Guard and Marine Police. 4 Navy helicopters, 11 naval crafts, 1 Coast Guard boat and 3 Marine Police boats were also deployed in the rescue operation.
The Navy said that so far a total of 99 people have been rescued safely. 13 people died in this accident, including 1 sailor and 2 OEMs aboard the Navy craft.
