Patna. Former Deputy CM of Bihar and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Tejashwi Yadav is continuously raising the issue of reservation. On the second and third day of the assembly session, he continuously talked about it and urged the Speaker of the Assembly to form a committee on it. The special thing is that this time he increased his demand further and demanded the implementation of the 85-15 formula. Let us tell you that during the winter session of the legislature, on the second day, there was a little debate between former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav and current Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary regarding this matter. During this, Tejashwi Yadav had said that we are only concerned that the reserved caste should get the benefit of reservation. Let us know what is Tejashwi Yadav's argument and what is his intention?
In fact, after the Bihar assembly by-elections, Tejashwi Yadav has tried to give a new twist to the issue of reservation by raising it. He says that the population of Bahujans is more than 85%, so the government should bring new MLAs and provide them at least 85% reservation. Tejashwi Yadav argues that the new bill brought by Nitish Kumar's government to provide 85% reservation to deprived castes and economically weaker sections should have quota for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Economically Weaker Sections (EBC).
Why is Tejashwi demanding 85-15?
Tejashwi Yadav's logic is that Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav should take the initiative and form a committee to bring the bill. After this, ask the Nitish government to bring the bill. Tejashwi urged that a committee be formed and this committee should be allowed to bring a new bill, in which 85% quota should be set jointly for SC-ST, OBC-EBC and EWS. He said that let Bihar set a new example and implement the 85-15 formula.
Tejashwi demands the formation of a committee.
Tejashwi Yadav says that if Nitish Kumar's government agrees to form a committee of the House and recommend increasing the quota by 50%, then he assures its full support. Tejashwi Yadav said that when his government was in power, the extended limit of reservation was implemented for the people of Bihar in a short tenure of 17 months. Tejashwi also says that he will not compete for credit for this, his only concern is that the Bahujan Samaj gets its rights.
The Supreme Court has directed regarding the limit of reservation.
Let us tell you that when the Mahagathbandhan government was in power in Bihar, after the caste-based elections, the scope of reservation in Bihar was increased to 75%. This also included 10% reservation for economically weaker sections. After this, the coalition government continuously put pressure that the reservation amendment should be included in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution. A proposal was also given for this, but in the meantime the Patna High Court had put a ban on the limit of reservation exceeding 50%.
What do political experts say?
The issue of reservation in Bihar has always been like a cash cow. Here political parties have been continuously cashing on it and have also formed governments on its basis. Now when Tejashwi Yadav has raised this issue again and given the formula of 85-15, senior journalist Ashok Kumar Sharma says that after the defeat in the by-election, Tejashwi Yadav wants to give a new turn to his politics. This is somewhat talking about Akhilesh Yadav's PDA - that is, backward, Dalit and minority combination in UP. The indication is probably that he can move forward on Lalu Yadav's old formula and it is possible that it will not be surprising if he is seen moving away from his A2Z politics.
